Our editor gives us her perfect playlist for Valentines,
Valentine’s, a night for lovers, restaurants and florists the world over. I have never had a satisfactory V-day, for the same reason my birthdays are a never-ending string of disasters and subsequent tears; I care too much. To underline this point, I have been known to mood board a birthday party – it’s astoundingly pathetic and only leads to heartbreak, not to mention a fair amount of embarrassment.
The same can be said with the ‘most romantic day’ of the year. Forced flowers, lacklustre love notes, and underwhelming underwear are regulars on the 14th February. And frankly, it f**ks me off. I understand that it is a half-hearted holiday at best for the majority of men, maybe even people in general, but couldn’t they consider faking it?

However, there is something I always enjoy about the night, a part of it that continually lives up to my expectations: The preparation. Dancing around my room, applying make up, considering things that would sooner be referred to as contraptions rather than lingerie (upside down, the other way? No! Right the first time!) Taking occasional sips from a glass of Prosecco ( organic, natch!) – all in all, having a ball!

Hours can be spent under the guise of getting ready for someone else’s eyes. But the true pleasure of the prep, is the indulgence, the little bit of silly time.
So no matter what your plans are for tonight, whether it be a romantic dinner in, or a night out on the town ( really, it’s still a Tuesday?) Listen to this little playlist I set before you, and have a little fun on your own first!
